5 Questions to ask before hiring your Wedding DJ

5 Questions to ask before hiring your Wedding DJ

Most couples are new to this whole hiring people to work on their wedding thing and could use some help. First things first, you've got to figure out the basics like, is the DJ available on your desired date. The answers to the following questions will help you get a sense of how experienced the candidates are.

Do you have a contract?

Any reputable DJ will have a contract which clearly outlines all details of your agreement. This document not only protects your interests but the DJ’s as well. I would strongly recommend avoiding any DJ which does not offer a contract.

Do you take requests and will you discuss and help us plan out our special songs ahead of time

Ask the DJ ahead of time if they have a list of songs they recommend playing throughout the wedding. If they leave that list up to you, be sure to provide the songs you want to get down on the dance floor to before your wedding is here. A professional DJ will understand your needs to have the music you desire at your wedding. In addition to this they will realize the diversity of people in attendance and that they will have requests as well. A professional DJ will sit with you ahead of time and discuss your preferences, give you feedback, and help you in planning to make your wedding special but also in making it your own. They will also allow you to choose songs or artists that they do not want played!

What is your rate?

This is vital: When discussing rates, be sure to find out if the rate changes based on the day and exactly how many hours the rate buys you. If the rate is in your range, awesome! If not, and it turns out that DJ or wedding band is the one, you might be able to negotiate a discount, or increase your budget to be able to use that DJ.

What sound equipment do you utilize? Do you bring back up equipment, in case anything happens?

Each of our DJs are very experienced to handle a situation where they may need to make adjustments, if equipment isn't working correctly. We always check with our staff during setup. DJ equipment is just as important as musical instruments. Ask if your DJ is certified and knows all of the ins and outs of connecting a system. Backup equipment is also an essential. A DJ should always have the equivalent of a spare tire on hand, whether it be a microphone, computer, mixer, etc. Be sure to ask how soon before the reception they plan to arrive and how long it will take for them to set up.

Is there anything we should know about your services that we haven't talked about?

This is the point in time in which you’ve covered everything there is to know regarding your upcoming event from your end. It never hurts to double check and make sure everything has been covered. Check to see if anything has been left out from the DJ’s point of view.

After wrapping up all of your questions for your wedding DJ you will know all there is to know regarding how your candidates work and perform. The more information you have, the better equipped you'll be to make the right decision for your wedding! Being a DJ requires you to do a lot more than just play songs . 1. My son is going to be getting married, and he wants me to find a DJ for him. It makes sense that I would want to find a DJ with a good contract! That way I can see what they put into their agreements.
